(Sylt) Simply unbeatable on Sylt – Capucine Delannoy is and remains the Queen of the Defender GKA Kite-Surf World Cup Sylt. The 18-year-old Frenchwoman defeated Switzerland’s Camille Losserand in a high-caliber final, securing her third title in a row after 2021 and 2023 (the event did not take place in 2022). “It was just perfect, I landed the perfect 10.0. I trained for months for this event and this moment, and I’m so happy,” said the overwhelmed winner immediately after the final run at Brandenburger Beach. Delannoy started with an incredible series of freestyle tricks, first with an 8-point score and then with the maximum score of 10.0. However, her opponent was not discouraged by this and gradually fought her way into the high-class final with 7 and 6-point scores in freestyle and wave. In the end, however, it was not quite enough for Losserand, who had to admit defeat to the too-strong Delannoy. Previously, Kesiane Rodrigues from Brazil had prevailed against Clemence Derrien from France in the small final for third place.

Spectacular Competitions and Challenging Weather Throughout the Week

From stormy and rainy to summer sunny, and from gentle breezes to 50 knots (almost 100 km/h wind speed), Sylt offered everything this week. Challenging for riders and spectators alike, but this did not prevent them from showing incredible performances and providing loud support from the beach at any time. A “massive show on Sylt,” as livestream commentator Liam Dredge aptly summed it up.

The sporting action kicked off spectacularly in the middle of the week with the premiere of the Hydrofoil Big Air discipline and a shining winner from France, Charles Brodel. The five-time series world champion confidently prevailed in all runs with a clear points lead over his rivals, winning not only the World Cup on Sylt, but also securing the European Championship title in the breathtaking kite discipline. Incredible jumps and tricks up to 30 meters high, which briefly took the spectators’ breath away on Brandenburger Beach: “These were exactly my conditions, then I have the most fun and I am very happy to win here,” said the European champion Brodel. Second place went to Spaniard Lorenzo Casati, third to Swiss Peer Schnyder.

In the main discipline, an extreme and emotional final developed towards the end of the week. Interrupted at times due to wind speeds of 50 knots, the men showed a high-class and exciting competition and landed incredible jumps despite the storm and rain. In his first competition after a one-year injury break, 25-year-old Australian James Carew grabbed the World Cup title. Against Gabriel Benetton from Brazil, the two-time world champion managed to combine maximum power with delicate technique. Immediately after his victory, he had emotional words: “Exactly one year ago I had surgery and everyone told me that I would not be here today. Just being here was a win for me. Now I have the World Cup title on Sylt, dreams do come true,” said the newly crowned champion James Carew. Third place went to Spaniard Lorenzo Casati in the small final.

The German riders achieved a good result overall. Unfortunately, it was not enough for the podium this year, but 15-year-old Finn Flügel was able to fight his way to fifth place in Hydrofoil Big Air: “Not quite as good as I had hoped, but I’m still mega happy with my result, hopefully next time I’ll make it to the final,” said Flügel.

Susanne Schwarztrauber and Keanu Merten both reached the third round in kite-surfing and were able to impress with strong heats.
