(Sylt) Mark your calendars! The island of Sylt is once again luring the world’s best wind and kite surfers to Westerland this year. Starting August 22nd, the absolute world elite will gather at Brandenburg Beach for six days at the Defender GKA Kite-Surf World Cup Sylt. In parallel, the exclusive “Defender Experience” of the title sponsor will take place from August 4th – registrations are now open at https://www.defender-sylt.de/. Exactly one month later, the schauinsland-reisen Windsurf World Cup Sylt will be all about the best windsurfers in the world for ten days. This only event of the PWA World Tour with the status “Super Grand Slam”, welcomes up to 200,000 visitors annually and has long established Sylt as one of the world’s largest windsurfing hotspots. Together with the new title partner schauinsland-reisen, the fourth largest German tour operator based in Duisburg, new standards are being set. With the highest demands on quality, the cooperation will create a unique holiday experience during the Windsurf World Cup.
The Insel Sylt Tourismus-Service has been organizing this event annually since 1983, with only one exception. In 2021, the event could not take place due to the effects of the Corona pandemic. “We at ISTS are pleased that we are now working with two experienced agencies on the future of these two water sports events that are typical for Sylt,” says Peter Douven, Managing Director of the Insel Sylt Tourismus-Service (ISTS), full of anticipation for the two dates.
The internationally prestigious sports festivals are also reorganizing their organizational structure this year. MMP Event, an experienced organizer of major sporting events and event agency of the Seven.OneEntertainment Group, is already taking over responsibility on the agency side for 2023 in a long-term cooperation with ACT AGENCY from Hamburg. ACT AGENCY has been the organizer of the Windsurf World Cup since 1990 and of the Kite-Surf World Cup since 2006. “We are very happy to welcome MMP Event as an agency partner for the responsibility on the organizer side, who brings a lot of experience, expertise and, above all, heart and soul and passion for sporting events. The proximity to a large media company, which is so important for media coverage and marketing, is an important basis for securing and further developing the events, especially in economically difficult times,” say Birgit Ballhause and Matthias Neumann, Managing Directors of ACT AGENCY, in unison.
MMP from Cologne is taking over the conception, implementation, marketing and communication of the events and is looking forward to the new tasks: “We thank ISTS and ACT for their trust in the future cooperation and are full of energy to be able to jointly organize and further develop two globally unique surf events,” says Christian Okon, Managing Director of MMP Event GmbH.
In addition to the high-class action on the water, visitors can look forward to a varied supporting program. Numerous stands, pop-up stores and a wide range of catering options attract visitors to the World Cup Village directly on the promenade of Brandenburg Beach.

"It was just perfect, I scored the perfect 10.0. I've been training for months for this event and this moment and I'm so happy," said the overwhelmed winner directly after the final run on Brandenburg Beach.
The biggest kite surfing event in the world is also in full swing - the riders in the supreme discipline of kite surfing got down to business on Thursday. After the first heats were completed on Wednesday afternoon, the women and men have been battling it out in alternating rounds for the coveted places in the quarter and semi-finals since the morning hours.
